She was made a burgess of the City of Dundee at the king’s request – the first woman to be so honoured and privileged. It was to be 360 years before another female burgess was appointed.
You’ll find her plaque at Gardyne’s Land, the only remaining building of Mariote’s time left in Dundee – a medieval building for a medieval lady.
