| 1919 - 1992
Margaret was a redoubtable mill-worker and trade unionist from the age of 15. At
the same time as bringing up four children, she became the first woman General
Secretary of a British trade union - the Dundee & District Union of Jute, Flax &
Kindred Textile Operatives - where she did much to improve health and safety and pay.
She continued to work as a JP and on industrial tribunals into her
sixties and was awarded an MBE. Her plaque marks the site of the union
headquarters at 93 Nethergate.
